Steve Uccello: News

David Grimes: Raised On Rabbit - August 25, 2008

I played upright bass and recorded the rhythm parts for three songs with Steve Robertson at my home studio in Monterey. David's latest album is more rocking than his previous 'Raven River" but lacks none of the sweet song writing and whimsically genius performance qualities. Check his website in my links section to get a copy!

David Grimes Album done! - August 12, 2008

Looks like David Grimes' next record is done. I played a bunch of bass parts and sent them the files, now I can't wait to see how it all came out!

Reworking Symmetrize - June 22, 2008

I've decided to take Symmetrize to the next level! Along with some new, more ambient songs (and a few select songs removed) I'm having it mixed and mastered at Ridgetop Sound, in Aptos. It's sounding really great so far! I'm also having my brother, Joe, custom create a new cover. This will be his first time designing an album cover from start to finish. It will also go under the name 'Symmetria", so anyone who wants future collector's items can purchase the current (and still great sounding) version at CD Baby for $5!!

I'm also thinking of calling my band "Uccello Project", what do you think? It might be more fitting for the "acoustic ambient" thing that seems to be coming out of me right now.

I'm hoping to have the whole thing done by the end of summer, and work up a double cd release for Polar Vision and Symmetria sometime in the fall or winter.

Steve on BASS WORLD RADIO - April 4, 2008

I will now have a few of the songs off SYMMETRIZE and POLAR VISION featured on BASS WORLD RADIO! This is an internet radio station that is free and easy to set up, it plays just like a song in your Itunes library. BWR showcases new bassists and bass music, as well as celebrating great bass playing within more conventional music. I'm very exited to be getting a positive response to my crazy bass music! More radio play and possible reviews are in the works-keep in touch.

The Recording Front- - February 1, 2008

The rhythm tracks for the new David Grimes album are done! I engineered the recording sessions at my home studio in Monterey. Steve Robertson played drum kit and percussion and I played the upright bass. The tracks are on their way to a studio operated by a friend of David's, in Missouri. The parts, in the form of wav files on a dvd disk, will be added to David's guitar and vocal parts, and from there, lots of other musicians will add more parts, including Dayan Kai, on Sax and Barry Phillips, on cello, to name a couple! Look for the record soon, and if you want to find out more about David, you can go to my 'myspace' page and you'll find that David is one of my friends, and you can click on the link to him (it's under Davin Lynn).
Another record that I am in the process of recording on is one that's being produced by Kieth Greeninger. The artist is named Steve Hohstadt, and he's got a very cool baritone voice and some really heartfelt truelife songs. Dayan Kai will also be tracking on the record in the middle of the month.
The Jazz big band that I play in is getting ready to go into the studio at CSUMB. Under the direction of Paul Contos, the band is tightening up nicely and the record will be awesome. The record will also be engineered by Paul, himself, at the state of the art facilities on campus, in Seaside.
That's all for now, please check in frequently for more updates on the completion of these projects.
Thanks for keeping in touch, and, please go to CD Baby or Itunes if you want to buy my two solo records: POLAR VISION and SYMMETRIZE.
Peace, Steve Uccello

The New Instrumental Album - January 23, 2008

The new instrumental album is done, it's a madhouse of basses and noodley songs, it called: SYMMETRIZE and it's on cd baby and itunes now!

Staying Busy - November 29, 2007

I've been working on some bass parts in my home studio for the next DAVID GRIMES album, it going to be another great one from this Alaskan based singer/songwriter/journeyman/sailer-fisherman-we'll keep you updated on the release.

The latest update 11-07 - November 25, 2007

The tour up north was very fun. Dayan and I opened for Tuck and Patti and shocased at the folkalliance, we also got some recording done, the next Dayan Kai record is shaping up to be great...

I have also finally reached the final phase of POLAR VISION: a thousand shrink-wrapped digipacs showed up on the doorstep a couple of days ago. the final version of the record includes one new instrumental song and a whole new mix and some updated parts, it was also mastered by Tim Prince at Ridgetop Sound. The company I used for duplication used recycled paper and soybased inks, the cd is still plastic, but the case isn't. Overall, this 'final pressing' is way cleaner and, hopefully, you will check it out...

American River Fest. - October 7, 2007

After playing a fine set with Keith Greeninger and Dayan Kai, Steve 'sat in' with The Joe Craven trio for a tune, giving pianist, John R. Burr's left hand a break from its bass duties. It was a total treat for Steve, and the guys seemed to enjoy Steve's bass solo, as well-

tour update - September 28, 2007

I'll be on the road with Juan Sanchez in Montana, in Oct. Then it's off to play with Dayan Kai and Nancy Cassidy at the Far West folk conference in Vancouver, Wa. After that I'll be doing some recording at Waimele, with Dayan for the next Dayan Kai album, which will feature Garrick Simenson on drums. Then, Dayan and I will be opening up for a couple of our heros: Tuck and Patti, in Corvalis, OR, on Oct. 13th. I'll keep you updated when there's more news to report!
